Our Family Reunion 2023
Our Family Reunion 2023
To start with for the last 10 years we have held our family reunion at Havana Glen outside Mountour Falls. For a lot of those years my sister has administrated the rental of the pavilion and the little things like plates, silverware, and table cloths.
Now my sisters health is not that great but she still works as a babysitter just to pay her bills because she was cheated out of her retirement.
So when she said that she was not going because she didn't feel good, my brother and I agreed to take my sisters place, in setting up the pavilion which was rented the year before.
We were to give Crystal the paperwork and supply's and pass the hat around for next years rental.
We arrived and no-one was there.
So we waited.
After about an hour our cousins the David Sampson of Pennsylvania and Tony, Crystals son arrived and where just as perplexed as us as to where everyone was.
The reunion was supposed to start an hour ago and there was no-one here?
After about another hour of waiting, I saw a truck that looked like Uncle Frank's parked at one of the campers near our pavilion.
So I walked over to see if it was him because some of our family have campers and they sometimes are in the park.
Well a chunk of our family where there on the opposite side of the camper eating their food.
I asked Uncle Frank, "What's going on?"
He replied that they where eating evidently angry at us for some reason.
So I returned to my brother Rick and told him that apparently we were "Persona Non Gratis" because no one was coming to the pavilion. A waste of 2 or $300 for a pavilion that was already rented the year before.
So our other cousins that were being snubbed like Rick and I offered to help pay for some hot dogs so that we could at least share a meal because the people responsible for the meat and the charcoal hadn't showed up!
So I took my last $10.00 in quarters and my brother's and cousins $20.00 to the P&C to buy a large package of hotdogs, rolls, ketchup, and mustard to go along with the soda, potato chips, and macaroni salad we already had.
When I returned Ryan and Uncle Frank was at the pavilion with a leftover half of a sheet pizza.
So what caused all this hatred?
I am told it is because my sister had a fight with my Aunt Edna about Susan's son having the ability to pay for his grandma's funeral and refusing.
Well Aunt Edna is one of the last of my Aunts and is in her 80's so she has earned the right to express her opinion.
For the record, I nor Rick or Sue have asked any single person to pay for my mom's funeral.
I have asked for donations and I'm sure that Justin will help as much as he can.
So it is unfair to put this burden on his shoulders just because he could pay for it. After all there are several people in our family who could easily afford to pay this bill without being singled out and made to feel bad.
I love my Aunt and am proud that she was trying to protect me.
But we need to stop pointing fingers and hurting each other and start being a family again.
I hope you get better soon Aunt Edna.
I love you all and hate to see you fighting.
